I’ve been so distracted this past week that, for the first time since it happened, I forgot that yesterday was the anniversary of my hearing loss. Here’s my post from last year.

Aw Mel, I am crying over reading what you wrote last year.
You may not think you are special or a role model for the hearing impaired but you are. What you went through is one of my biggest fears and yet at the same time, if it happens, I know it will be okay. Why? Because I have met you, and talked to you, and I know that while it would suck being thrust into such a scary situation, I would be able to get through it. YOU taught me that.

Wow. Seven years. When I filled out the reference today it asked me how long I had known you – I count by how old Grace is – eight years. Wow!
With all we have been through – I am so glad we are friends. Other than the flashing lights in your apt I often forget you are hearing impaired. One thing is for sure – without you I would never have learned to text like a teenager
